Underwater Data Center
It will be
the world first underwater commercial data center. The venue is China and
location is Lingshui, Hainan province. The purpose behind constructing under
water data center is to bring down costs associated with cooling process.
The time
that for submerging underwater data center took three hours. The weight of
sealed capsule is 1,300 tons and lies in depth from surface of water 35 meters.
In this
project, the gravitational heat pipe technology has been used. Other resourse
is natural one that is sea water. This technology will assist Chinese Engineers
to enhance energy efficiency of the data center by 40–60%.
Interestingly,
underwater unit is capable to perform 60,000 conventional personal computers.
It will take only 30 seconds to process more than 4 million high-resolution
images.
According to
the project details on YouTube video titled 海南：全球首个商用海底数据中心数据舱成功下水 from Chinese YouTube channel 玉麒麟,the
operational capavity of 100 installation units in underwater sea project
perform equals to 6 million PCs.
Data
scientists will also be able to perform large scale scientific calculations. Annually,
there will be saving upto 105,000 tons of fresh water. The electricity that
underwater commercial data center would consume would be only 122 million
kilowatt-hours.
