first day at teaching? Were your few days not went as you planned? Are you experienced

disobedient? When you try to teach them they don't listen to you? You wanted to

Don't go
away from teaching career because every lock has a key and all you have to do
is to find that hidden solution. When the author Rob Plevin of this book
confronted the same problem he was about to quit his job. But then novel idea
came into his mind for taming students, he joined Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in
afternoon before departing home and it turned out to be game changer. Joining
PRU gave him opportunity to observe how school kids behaved outside of their
class. Most of the behaviors of students were not well mannered, they used to
throw objects, spoken abusive language, making noise in the corridor, screamed
and wrestled with each other.
Teaching is
usually not considered easy job throughout the world. Being a teacher, to face
many challenges during classroom environment. If you are mathematics or science
teacher, must be acquainted with the fact that how demanding your teaching
profession has been?
Now coming back to this book, after going through the process of PRU, the book author Rob Plevin decides to go deep and he made a questionnaire for his students for better understanding. Rob was one from those teachers who sat into staff room and sipped coffee alone. But he got out of his comfort zone and talked with students outside class. When he received filled questionnaire back from the students, their responses helped him in great way.
Teacher and Students |
The feedback
on questionnaire that Rob received from students was comprised of following
main points:
They wanted
their teacher to treat with them in amicable manner, should get appreciated
when they did right, must be allowed them to laugh, lesson or lecture should be
taught in interesting manner instead of boring tone, should always be trusted,
should be treated with fair, abiding of rules should be for everyone, should be
given empowerment, must listen to their grievances and address properly.
After
careful study of their thoughts about way how teaching should be in class, Rob
was of the opinion that whoever understands the psychological needs of students
would succeed for maintaining healthy relationship with the students.
According to
the Rob, Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory would not work in this
scenario. He stresses to need to comprehend psyche of children completely. But
to grasp of the psyche is not easy task for everyone. Everything starts with
communication and if you are good communicator then can attain your goal. The
psychology plays a pivotal role in bridging a gap between teacher and
student.
