In Five Years

Dannie Kohan couldn't go ahead without her numbers. When she woke up in the morning, daily recalled minutes. It taken her boyfriend David twenty five minutes to fetch coffee for her, thirty six to clean her teeth with toothbrush and taking a shower, forty three for putting make up, face wash, hair shampoo and getting dressed for work and eighteen for reaching office.

Dannie was a corporate lawyer, her law office Sutter, Boyt and Barn was located at east forty Seventh Street from her hill apartment. About dating, she was of the opinion that woman should date at least twenty four times with man and about marriage age she suggest be at thirty.

It was December 15 when Dannie walked into the kitchen then David wish good wishes for interview. On hearing that, she replied thank you, hugged and kissed him. The attire that both were wearing, David in pajamas and Dannie in bathrobe. David looked thirty years of age when he wears glasses but was under thirty.

David showed his generosity and lavishness while making coffee, he pour coffee mate and hazelnut in Dannie's cup. From her kitchen window, Third Avenue, Murray hill always sighted. David and Dannie were not living in posh area, had they money, and would prefer to live two bedroom apartment with full kitchen. David was an investment banker by profession at Tishman Speyer.

It was a dream to work for Wachtell for Dannie. She still remembers during childhood that she used to stroll along with her father at 51 west fifty second street, in those days Wachtell office located in CBS building around New York Times Square. 

David had a full confidence on Dannie and optimistic that she would get this job but she was not hopeful. When Dannie got her first interview call, thought was joke but it was really happening when she picked up phone. Bella, one of Dannie's friend employee at Wachtell, made an interview call on behalf of law firm.

Despite David's membership with Equinox fitness club, he never went there, Dannie disliked because he was squandering money for nothing. But David was of lean body and not excess weight.

Dannie's friendship with Bella was more than 7 years. Bella was of friendly and talkative nature, loves to date men. Renaldo was her new boyfriend after Francesco and Marcus. Marcus belonged to the filmmaking industry, Francesco was fond of playing a piano. Bella's friendship with men remain not last any longer.

It was December 15, Dannie's interview day to move forward in career. She opened her closet to dress up and over her black suit she was wearing red and white ruffled shirt.

When Dannie went out for an interview to reach headquarters of Wachtell, saw the surrounded buildings around New York Times square were decorated with Christmas lights and holiday season was running. It was 10:45 a.m. when she stepped inside into elevator to reach at thirty third floor.

At reception desk, Dannie was greeted by receptionist, the attire that she was wearing, was without blazer but had put on banana republic sheath, and she guided her towards the conference room. After the ten minutes, two partners entered and the interview began.

The first question was a general one about telling about herself so she replied that she was from Philadelphia and in the beginning days of her childhood she assisted father in business of lighting when she was under ten years old. Office work that she was associated with back office, sorted, and filed contracts but less acquainted with details at that time.

Dannie graduated in second class from Columbia law. Though she worked clerk at the southern district at New York but her ambition to become a corporate lawyer.

The last asked question was a common one and it was about seeing her future in next five years which was replied confidently by Dannie.

When the interview concluded, Dannie went to shop in SoHo for her engagement outfit. The reservation for the Rainbow Room had already in place by David for engagement. The dating night arrives that both were anxiously waiting for. David wore navy suit over white shirt, and pink and blue tie and Dannie fire engine red ensemble. They enjoyed while champagne, danced holding each other hands, ate dinner and dessert with fun and laughter before marriage proposal.

Later when they both reached home, felt hungry so ordered online fried rice from Thai food for only eight dollars. Prior, they had expensive dinner for seven hundred dollars during dating at Rainbow Room. But strange thing happened with Dannie, before she could ate her food, fell asleep, when woke up and open her eyes, found herself in a unknown place never seen before. Time leaped to five years, a one hour ago she was with David. 

All she remembered was with David and it was engagement night, and suddenly she fell asleep. Dannie found herself lying in bed of another apartment, when she get off and walked towards the door, saw large steel door instead of normal one. She wondered where she right now. Was she dreaming or facing real situation. Then she heard and saw stranger called her name, Dannie astonished to find that she is in future.
